Before the event

A short, brisk session before you start

For the day before a race, a climb or a meet, or two or three days ahead. Lighter pressure and quicker strokes, so you arrive warm and unhurried.

Book it far enough ahead to walk it off. Your therapist asks what the event is and which parts of you it leans on, then plans the session around that. Deep, slow work waits until after the event.

Four steps

From the first question to the last stroke

  1. 01

Step 1: Tell us the event

The date, the distance or the route, and what you would like worked on. Two minutes, no forms.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Set the pressure

Light, medium or firm, and any area to leave alone. Change it whenever you like.

  3. 03

    Step 3: The session

Covered by a sheet or towel, one area uncovered at a time. Quick, rhythmic strokes and a little gentle movement.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Walk it off

A few minutes to sit up and stand slowly, then an easy walk before you go on with your day.

Every session

Covered, consenting, in control

  • You are covered

A sheet or towel the whole time. Only the part we are working on is uncovered, and it is covered again when we move on.

  • You set the pressure

We ask before we start and check as we go. Lighter or firmer, just say. You can stop at any time and we stop right away.

  • What to wear

Shorts or loose athletic clothes you can move in. For leg work, shorts that slide up. Undress only as far as you like.

  • Ask your doctor first

If you are pregnant, have had surgery or are being seen about an injury, ask your doctor or other provider before you book.

Who does it

Neftali takes most pre-event sessions.

Neftali works the legs and hips: the quads, hamstrings and calves that riders and runners ask about. He takes most pre-event sessions and the long ones after a race. He speaks English and Spanish, and he rides the river road before work.

About pre-event sessions

How close to the event should I book?

Anywhere from three days ahead to the day before. We would not book the morning of a start, since you will want to warm up your own way.

Is it deep work?

No. Before an event we keep the pressure lighter and the session shorter. The firmer, slower work is for afterward.

What if the event is called off, or I am ill?

Tell us as soon as you know and we will move your session to another day.

Book before your start.

One to three days ahead is plenty.
