Sports massage in Livingston, Montana

Loose for the start. Looked after at the finish.

Two licensed massage therapists for cyclists, climbers and lifters. A short, brisk session before your event and a longer, slower one after it, on a table in town.

Around your event

Before the event, and after it

Two kinds of session, planned around when you start and when you stop.

  • A therapist's hands working a calf wrapped in a towel, with a pair of running shoes on the floor beside the table
    Before

    Before the event

A brisk session in the one to three days before a race, a climb or a meet. Lighter pressure, quicker strokes, and the hips, legs, shoulders or arms you are about to use. You leave warm, not tender.

    • 30 or 45 minutes

    • Booked one to three days ahead

    • Lighter, quicker work

    Plan a pre-event session
  • A therapist's bare hands pressing the sole of a client's foot, resting on a towel by a sunny window
    After

    After the event

A longer, slower session once it is over. Firmer pressure where you ask for it, with time for the legs, back and feet, and a quiet table to lie on. Most people book the day after, or the day after that.

    • 60 or 90 minutes

    • Booked the day after or later

    • Slower, firmer work

    Plan a post-event session

Two therapists, both licensed

Each therapist is licensed by the State of Montana, and the licenses are listed at the foot of the page under their names.

  • Neftali Rael, licensed massage therapist, standing in a bright treatment room beside a table

    Neftali Rael

    Licensed massage therapist

    • Massage therapist license · MT Lic. 000000

Neftali works the legs and hips: the quads, hamstrings and calves that riders and runners ask about. He takes most pre-event sessions and the long ones after a race. He speaks English and Spanish, and he rides the river road before work.

  • Hugh Bauer, licensed massage therapist, standing beside a treatment table in a bright room

    Hugh Bauer

    Licensed massage therapist

    • Massage therapist license · MT Lic. 000000

Hugh works the shoulders, neck and forearms that climbers and lifters lean on, and he takes most of the long post-event sessions. He is slow, thorough and happy to talk it through, or to work in quiet if you would rather.

Good to know

Questions before you book

How long is a session?

Sessions run 15 to 90 minutes. Before an event we keep it to 30 or 45; after one, 60 or 90.

What do I wear?

Shorts or loose athletic clothes you can move in; for leg work, shorts that slide up. You are covered by a sheet or towel the whole time, and whatever you keep on, we work around.

Am I covered the whole time?

Yes. Only the part we are working on is uncovered, and it is covered again when we move on.

Can I stop?

Yes, at any time and for any reason. You can pause, change position or end the session, and we stop right away.

How close to my event should I book?

A short pre-event session fits one to three days before. Book the longer, slower session for the day after. We would not book the morning of a start.

What if I am ill, injured or pregnant?

If you are unwell, tell us and we will move your session. If you are pregnant, have had surgery or are being seen about an injury, ask your doctor or other provider before booking, and tell your therapist at the start. We do not diagnose.
